Rainbow Valley Kids was established in 1990.  We are certified by the State of Maine as a Family Child Care Home, License No. 217418, with a capacity of 12 children. We also hold a Quality Certificate issued by the state.

In addition we are Nationally Accredited by National Association of Family Child Care. This was a two year process of making changes to our environment and our program to meet these “highest standards of quality in child care”. We are very proud of this accomplishment as only approximately 5% of Family Child Care in the State have achieved this level of distinction.

Hours of Operation: Monday-Friday 6:00AM-6:00PM. Each child will have his or her own scheduled drop off and pick up times within these times.

We are open an average of fifty weeks each year. Child care is available for school age children on no school days due to snow cancellations and teacher workshops. The preschool program follows the SAD #61 calendar and there are no classes when school is not in session. However, preschoolers who are in a full day child care program may still attend on these days.

Our staff is trained and has extensive teaching resources to customize a curriculm which is both comprehensive and developmentally appropriate.

Mary Harrington, owner/teacher, started Rainbow Valley Kids in 1990. Mary has extensive experience and training in child development, special needs,  preschool curriculum planning and school age child care.  Mary is at Level 5 on the Maine Roads to Quality system with over 300 hours of training in the past 5 years. 

Missy Littlefield, co-teacher, has been working with our program for over 15 years and is registered on the Maine Roads to Quality.  Missy recently completed a 30 hour training on building children's self-esteem.   Missy is dedicated to providing quality education and care for each child and is always looking for new ideas and new information on child care and teaching.

Missy and I both have had extensive curriculum training in the State of Maine’s Early Childhood Learning Guidelines which aligns with and prepares children for meeting the Maine State Learning Results in the school system.
