Rainbow Valley Kids believes that all children grow and develop at their own pace and that they should not
be hurried through childhood. Our goal is to provide a safe learning environment where kids can simply be kids.
We feel play is an important aspect of young children’s lives… it is essential to their well-being
and development. New concepts, new skills and new understanding come to children through play. In play, children learn to organize
ideas and solve problems. Children’s attention spans begin to lengthen and they learn to communicate their
thoughts, feelings and needs to others. Play also provides multiple fine and gross motor practice opportunities
that build muscles and dexterity. We feel by careful arrangement of our classroom
we can offer challenging, interesting play and learning choices that will further each child's growth and development.
We balance this play with many structured activities such as table time, circle time, open ended art activities,
music, meals, clean up, etc. We use the State Early Childhood Learning Guidelines to ensure a well rounded program that will
prepare each child for kindergarten. We feel it is important to design our curriculm to be developmentally appropriate.
By maintaining a small class (12 children or less) it makes it possible for us to know each child and their strengths
and weekness. This indepth knowledge allows us to provide projects to meet and further each child's education.
By purposeful teaching, we capitalize on everyday activities such as setting the table to teach counting, patterning
and one to one correspondence. We feel it is important take advantage of the learning opportunities whenever they
present themselves in a normal course of each day. When a child notices a bug on the playground, we may use
the opportunity to not only teach more about bugs (science), but in the process, children will also
learn that books, magazines, and computes are resources for knowledge.
We believe physical, intellectual and communication skills are not enough though, social skills and self
help skills are essential for each child. These skills are taught and reinforced through the use of modeling responsibility,
acceptance, caring, sharing and respect for all children and adults. We believe truly listening and engaging in conversations
with the children provides numerous opportunities for the development of emotional, language, and social skills as well as
enhancement of self-esteem. We believe, providing these opportunities to children will help them develop a positive
self-esteem and a love of learning that will follow them throughout their lives.
